We are nearing the end of summer sessions, and many of the students have been busy working toward a recital that we will put on in the studio on Friday, August 24, 2007 featuring Bridget McGlone, Rebecca Vaughn, Robert Cosgrove, Genny Faist, Sara Johnson, and Megan Morrill...We will be presenting an eclectic mix of contemporary pop songs; contemporary show numbers from Wicked, Hairspray, Aida, Les Miserables, and others; and classical solo piano pieces...All friends and family and anyone else is welcome to attend (307 Hudson Avenue, Time to be announced).
Congratulations to the students who participated in this year's NYSSMA solo festivals. For some students such as Caleb Owens and Jamie Curcio, this marked their first time participating in NYSSMA. Other students such as Olivia Parker and Josh Howland have made this festival an annual goal. And, for Megan Morrill (piano and voice) and Robert Cosgrove (piano, percussion and xylophone), NYSSMA served as an opportunity to prepare solos for multiple instruments! All students truly did a wonderful job in preparing themselves, and each received a score that reflected their hard work and allowed them to take the pride in themselves that they so much deserved.
I was privileged to accompany a number of high school students in their NYSSMA solos such as James Hartel (flute) and Zach Goldstein (cello).
The recital held at Justin's on April 28, 2007 was a complete success! The program ran long - a full 2 hours of music! - but we all truly enjoyed ourselves and packed the room with family, good music, and a great vibe. Boh adult and young students performed a variety of music from all genres - contemporary show and pop, movie themes, traditional classical, jazz - giving the recital an interesting flow! Several students also demonstrated their multiple talents, performing both on piano and voice, or piano and drums...we also had saxophone, flute and keyboards to weave into the mix. It was certainly my favorite recital I have ever put together, and I am very proud of the 15 performers who made it possible. Check out samples below!
If you have photos, recordings, or other materials you wish to share on this website with other studio students and visitors, please do pass it on to me!
Please make sure that I have your e-mail address that I might put you on the studio's mailing list.
